Personal Screenshot from my Unity Hub For this week I added in all of the final touches to my game, some of the code wasn't working for me but thankfully I was able to get it all working and fixed and now my game is running fine. As I said in the previous blog posts, my initial idea end up being a bit too hard to produce so I changed my idea to be something more like what we did in the first Unity tutorial and it was a lot easier for me to do instead of my initial idea. I think that I set my own boundaries too high and thought I would be able to create something a lot more difficult but in reality I wasn't able to. I really enjoyed being able to make this game and I like how it turned out in the end!

Alpha

Personal Screenshot from my Unity Hub This week I kept on following along the first Unity tutorial and adding in some more code to make everything tie together more.  Initially I wanted to have powerups and a lot more things added into my game but as the weeks went on those targets didn't seem too realistic for me so I tied it back to something a lot more simple but also something that can be fun and enjoyable. All I need to do next is add in some final touches with the code and then my game should be ready to play!

First Playable

Personal Screenshot from my Unity Hub This week I added in some code to my game to make the car be able to move side to side and I also added in some obstacles that the car can hit to get out of the way.  After starting to create my game, I realised that a lot of the ideas I initially had were quite complex so I don't think I will be able to add them in to my game, instead I am just taking inspiration from the first Unity tutorial and having a car that moves in a straight line and hits obstacles out of the way. Next week I will be adding in some more code to the game and finalizing a lot of the things to have the alpha for my game.

Prototype

Personal Screenshot from my Unity Hub This week I started the prototype on my own game. When I opened up Unity I had no idea where to start, I didn't have much of an idea of how I wanted my scene to look, I just knew I wanted it to have some kind of arcade style to it. To begin, I went into the Unity asset store to see if they had any free assets available that I would be able to use in my game, fortunately they had a lot of assets I will be able to use for my scene. I started out by picking a car that I liked and that fit with my theme and downloaded it and imported it into my Unity. I then looked for some other assets like roads and grass and trees and then added them in to my Unity and created this scene for my game. I have not created any of my scripts yet, I plan to do that for the first playable next week but I am happy with the start I have on my game, I have not run into any difficulties yet, but I suspect that when it comes to coding the game it will become a little bit ha...

Game Design Document

Image
Source This week we had to create our Game Design Documents for our games, after reading about what a game design document was, initially I was very confused as I had never heard of them before, and I then had to figure out what I was going to include in my own and what website I would use to design it. I designed mine on Dundoc. This website was a lot to take in at first, I found it really hard to navigate my way around it and it took me a while to be able to find where I was suppose to be creating my Game Design Document. Eventually I got the hang of it and I was able to create a game design document, I'm still not sure if it is 100% right but I gave it a good go. Game Design Document

Game Vision Statement

Source My driving game is a 3D arcade style game that will bring you on a nostalgic journey and hopefully be a lot of fun.  In my game you will navigate a car in a straight line down a road, trying to collect as many coins as possible in a certain time frame. I would like to somehow incorporate a magnet as like a booster in the game, when you're driving ahead, you're able to pick up a magnet that will work for a certain amount of time so you don't have to move around to collect all of the coins. I would also like for the player to have to try to get the car to reach the finish line, with obstacles in the way, without running out of fuel. I think that I would also make some bonus fuel tanks along the road that the car can collect if they had hit some objects on the way so that they have more of a chance to make the finish line without running out of fuel. I would like for my game to be able to be played on both mobile and PC but initially be made as a PC game and then turn...

Game Idea Research

Image
Source After getting my feedback on my Game Brainstorming, the genre of game I have decided to create is a racing game, I think that this genre of game will be good because it's not too difficult for my first game and it is also a genre that I enjoy playing so I think it will be fun to create. One of the mechanics I would like to have in my game is the aim to collect as many coins as possible within a certain time frame. I think to expand this mechanic also, I would like to somehow incorporate a magnet as like a booster in the game, when you're driving ahead, you're able to pick up a magnet that will work for a certain amount of time so you don't have to move around to collect all of the coins. Another mechanic I would be interested in is trying to get the car to reach the finish line, with obstacles in the way, without running out of fuel, I got the idea from this website here  . I think that I would also make some bonus fuel tanks along the road that the car can col...

Game Brainstorm

Image
Source I've never been a big gamer growing up, I always left that to my brother, who could spend hours upon hours playing games on his Xbox before getting in trouble for spending so long on it! But even then, sometimes I would sit and observe what kind of games my brother would be playing in his spare time, from Grand Theft Auto, to Call of Duty, to FIFA, there was a wide variety of games that he loved to play whenever he could. As I got a bit older, I started to sneak into my brothers room while he was out with his friends and turn on his console and indulge in the world of gaming myself. I really enjoyed learning about all these different types of games that he had. Grand Theft Auto quickly became one of my personal favourites and I would always beg my brother to let me play it whenever I could. So for my project for Multimedia Development 1, the four genre of games I think I would be most interested in creating myself would be; - First Person Shooter -Life Simulation  -Action-Ad...
