Feedback Thoughts

Source Neil Gaiman's advice on the creative life Article Link When I first read this article I was a little confused on how it corresponded to dealing with negative feedback, but I realised with creative projects, you're never going to get it right the first time so that negative feedback is essential. You follow steps and processes to make a creative masterpiece, or somewhat close to one so negative feedback is encouraged to help you make your project the best that it can be.  "If you are not making mistakes, you're not taking enough risks." Debbie Millman When we make mistakes we are making something new, and most importantly we are learning in the process, we are also challenging ourselves we make mistakes because we'...

Game Brainstorm

Source I've never been a big gamer growing up, I always left that to my brother, who could spend hours upon hours playing games on his Xbox before getting in trouble for spending so long on it! But even then, sometimes I would sit and observe what kind of games my brother would be playing in his spare time, from Grand Theft Auto, to Call of Duty, to FIFA, there was a wide variety of games that he loved to play whenever he could. As I got a bit older, I started to sneak into my brothers room while he was out with his friends and turn on his console and indulge in the world of gaming myself. I really enjoyed learning about all these different types of games that he had. Grand Theft Auto quickly became one of my personal favourites and I would always beg my brother to let me play it whenever I could. So for my project for Multimedia Development 1, the four genre of games I think I would be most interested in creating myself would be; - First Person Shooter -Life Simulation  -Action-Ad...

Unity Tutorial 01

Image
Source This was my first ever time using Unity and I'm still not too sure how I feel about it. I think that following along the tutorials really helped me out a lot but when it comes to having to create a game on my own with no instructions I might struggle a bit with coming to terms with it, but with that being said I actually enjoyed finding my way around the application and I think with a bit of practice I should be able to manoeuvre around it no problem. I learned how to code in C# which was new for me but I really enjoyed it and it reminded me a little of when we used brackets last year in Web Development. One thing I found difficult with Unity was placing the vehicles and objects and aligning them correctly, other than that I think the application, along with the coding wasn't too difficult and I didn't have many problems. I'm looking forward to continuing with the tutorials so I can learn some more tips and tricks within Unity that I may be able to use help me wh...

Game Design

Source What is a game anyway?  This is such a complicated question to answer because there seems to be so many different ways to define a game. One definition I would like to focus on in this blog post is "A game has 'ends and means': an objective, an outcome, and a set of rules to get there" (David Parlett) This statement is quite interesting because it is stating that a game always has an end, and it has an objective to get to that end goal but also a set of rules you have to follow to be able to get to that objective to be able to end the game. One game that reminds me of this statement is the card game 'Go Fish'. This is one of those games that always has an end, because eventually you run out of cards. But, you still have an objective and a set of rules to follow in this game. From all my years playing Go Fish, the objective was always to have the most amount of paired up cards to win in the end, and the rules were to always ask the other player for a c...
